The Midlam Years | A Home Reclaimed

The story of Lafayette Square's renaissance was not simply one of buildings restored, but of individuals who believed these extraordinary homes deserved another chapter.

Richard and Elizabeth Midlam became part of that history at the former Vogel residence on Missouri Avenue. Their names appear in the historic district's preservation records, linking them to a period when Lafayette Square's nineteenth-century houses were being rediscovered and returned to residential life.

Their connection to Carré Lafayette forms an important bridge between the home's Gilded Age beginnings and its life today—a reminder that historic preservation is a legacy passed from one generation of caretakers to the next.
